Los Angeles police said the collision happened at 4:34 a.m. on Vista del Mar Lane near Culver Boulevard when one vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming car.
Victims Hurt In Crash
Police and emergency crews found four people hurt at the scene. One man died there from his injuries, while paramedics took three others to the hospital.
The 1-year-old died at the hospital, according to the report. The Los Angeles Fire Department said a woman was in critical condition while being transported, and a second man reached the hospital alive but his condition was not immediately known.
Driver Fled The Scene
Investigators said the driver believed to be responsible was behind the wheel of a white Jeep. That driver left the crash site and headed north on Vista del Mar, and has not been found.
The relationship between the people involved was not immediately known. Police have not released additional details about what led up to the crash.
Police Investigation Continues
The Los Angeles Police Department said the case remains under investigation. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances of the collision and identify the driver who ran away.
Authorities did not say whether speed, impairment or other factors played a role.
What Officials Have Said
As of the latest update, police confirmed the crash involved two vehicles and that the suspect vehicle traveled north after the impact. Emergency responders treated the scene as a serious injury collision before the deaths were confirmed.
