Driver Dies After Car Leaves SR-70 Near Quincy and Slams Into Utility Pole in Plumas County Crash

QUINCY, CA — A man died after his vehicle went off State Route 70 east of Maddalena Road and struck a utility pole on July 23, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened at about 2:58 p.m. and remains under investigation.

CHP said the driver was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the roadway and hit several objects before coming to rest.

Collision Details

Investigators said the vehicle hit two metal paddle markers, a barbed wire fence, a sign, a metal gate post and then the utility pole. Authorities have not determined how fast the vehicle was traveling.

The sequence of impacts is part of the ongoing crash investigation, CHP said.

Emergency Response

CHP officers and Eastern Plumas District Paramedics tried to provide lifesaving aid at the scene. Despite those efforts, the driver was pronounced dead where the crash occurred.

No other injuries were mentioned in the report.

Investigators Seek Details

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is handling the death investigation with CHP’s collision investigation. Officials have not released the driver’s identity.
