One Person Dies and Two Are Critically Hurt After Five-Car Crash on Dublin Boulevard Near H Mart in Dublin

DUBLIN, CA — One person was killed and two others were left in critical condition after a five-car crash Monday afternoon on Dublin Boulevard near H Mart, Dublin police said. Officers were called to the westbound lanes just east of Regional Street around 1:42 p.m.

Investigators said the crash began when a red Lexus ES 350 traveling westbound at a high rate of speed struck the back of a gray Volkswagen Jetta in the right-turn lane. Police said the Lexus did not appear to brake before impact.

How the crash unfolded

Police said the initial rear-end collision triggered a chain reaction involving four other vehicles. All five cars were disabled in the wreck.

The force of the crash left multiple occupants trapped or injured at the scene, prompting an emergency response from Dublin police and Alameda County Fire Department crews.

Emergency crews responded

According to Capt. Miguel Campos, officers began lifesaving measures on one of the occupants after arriving at the scene. Firefighters used the jaws of life to free several people from the damaged vehicles.

Four people were taken to local hospitals, Campos said. By Tuesday, one of the injured occupants had died and two remained in critical condition.

Traffic was shut down

Westbound Dublin Boulevard was closed between Golden Gate Drive and Regional Street for several hours after the collision. The roadway reopened around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The crash happened in a busy area near H Mart, adding to traffic disruption during the afternoon commute.

Investigation remains open

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they are still piecing together what led to the crash. At this time, investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.

Authorities have not announced any charges or identified the people involved.
