One Woman Is Killed and Several Others Injured in a San Jose Crash After a Vehicle Allegedly Fled Police and Ran a Red Light

SAN JOSE, CA — One woman died and several other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in San Jose early Sunday after a sedan allegedly being pursued by police struck another car at a busy intersection. The collision happened about 12:20 a.m. at Naglee and Park avenues, according to San Jose police.

Investigators said a tan Buick was traveling south on Park Avenue when the driver allegedly ran a red light and hit a gray Toyota heading north on Naglee Avenue.

Police said a woman riding in the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Buick, a man, suffered major injuries and was arrested before being taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities did not immediately release the names of those involved.

Two women in the Toyota were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. The crash left both vehicles damaged at the intersection as officers investigated the scene overnight.

The department said the Buick driver had allegedly been pursued by Santa Clara police before the collision.

San Jose police said the death was the city’s 21st fatal traffic collision of 2026. The number underscores a deadly year on local streets as investigators continue to piece together what happened before the impact.

Officials have not said whether impairment or speed played a role.
