Anonymous Tips Helped Southern Arizona Investigators Make 83 Arrests, Close 104 Cases and Recover Stolen Property, Drugs and Guns

TUCSON, AZ — Anonymous tips from the public helped law enforcement agencies across Southern Arizona make 83 arrests and close 104 cases during the latest fiscal year, according to 88-Crime. Officials said the reports also led investigators to recover $38,040 in stolen property, $40,165 in illegal drugs and nine firearms.

The nonprofit program said it paid $55,600 in rewards to tipsters over the same period, with all of the money coming from private donations.

Cases Tied to Serious Crimes

Program officials said the tips played a role in 30 fugitive investigations involving people wanted for crimes such as homicide, aggravated assault, firearms violations and human smuggling. Another six cases involved drug sales and distribution.

Anonymous reports also helped solve two homicides, one sexual assault case and one hit-and-run, along with a number of other felony investigations.

How the Program Works

88-Crime is a nonprofit that lets people report criminal activity without giving their name. The program works with local law enforcement agencies and the Pima County Attorney’s Office to support investigations across Southern Arizona.

Officials said the system is designed to give community members a way to share information while staying anonymous.

Officials Cite Community Impact

Program Coordinator James Allerton said the results show how much of a difference community participation can make in public safety. He said anonymous tips contribute directly to arrests, case closures and safer communities across the region.

Reward Money and Reporting

Officials said reward payouts are funded entirely by private donations, not taxpayer money. They said the payout totals reflect tips that helped move investigations forward and produce usable leads.
