Anonymous Tips Lead to 83 Arrests, 104 Case Closures and Recovered Contraband Across Southern Arizona Through 88-Crime Program

TUCSON, AZ — Anonymous tips from community members helped Southern Arizona law enforcement agencies make more than 80 arrests, close dozens of cases and recover stolen property, drugs and firearms, according to 88-Crime. The nonprofit said its fiscal year results show public reports played a direct role in investigations across the region.

Officials said the program’s tipsters contributed to 83 arrests and helped investigators close 104 cases. The information also led to the recovery of $38,040 in stolen property, $40,165 in illegal drugs and nine firearms.

Reward Money Paid Out

88-Crime said it paid out $55,600 in rewards during the fiscal year. The money came entirely from private donations, officials said.

The program is designed to let people report suspected criminal activity anonymously while helping local agencies and the Pima County Attorney’s Office support investigations.

Cases Included Serious Crimes

Officials said the tips helped with 30 fugitive investigations involving people wanted for offenses including homicide, aggravated assault, firearms violations and human smuggling. Six other cases involved drug sales and distribution.

Anonymous reports also helped solve two homicides, one sexual assault and one hit-and-run, according to the program’s summary.

How Residents Can Report

People can submit anonymous tips by calling 88CRIME at 520-882-7463, visiting 88crime.org or using the P3 Tips mobile app. Program leaders said the system gives residents a way to share information without revealing their identity.

Program Coordinator James Allerton said the results show how community members can affect public safety and help investigators move cases forward.

88-Crime works with local law enforcement agencies across Southern Arizona and the Pima County Attorney’s Office. Officials said the nonprofit has become a tool for turning public information into arrests, case closures and recovered evidence.

The latest fiscal year numbers reflect a broad mix of felony investigations, from drug cases to violent crimes, all aided by anonymous community reports.
