Elections Baby

As the country gears up for the upcoming elections, candidates from various political parties are busy campaigning nationwide.

In the presidential race, there are several candidates representing different political parties. The incumbent, President Joe Biden, is seeking re-election on the ticket of the Democratic Party. President Biden’s re-election promises to “finish this job,” in reference to completing his unaccomplished goals from his first term of presidency. On April 25, 2023, President Biden released a 3-minute YouTube video announcing his campaign for 2024. Biden distinguishes his administration from his political opponents by saying, “Around the country, MAGA extremists are lining up to take those bedrock freedoms away. Cutting social security that you’ve paid for your entire life while cutting taxes for the very wealthy. Dictating what health care decisions women can make, banning books, and telling people who they can love.”

President Joe Biden’s previous opponent during the 2020 election, Former President Donald Trump, announced his re-election campaign on November 15, 2022. As the Republican Party’s previous nominee, it is likely that Trump will represent the Republicans on the ticket. Trump’s popularity within the GOP makes him the Republican’s likely candidate, however, his legal troubles darken his chances.

In March, Former President Trump was charged with criminal activity. Explicit details of the case have yet to be revealed. Still, Trump is being investigated for a “34-count indictment accusing him of falsifying business records related to the hush money payments,” according to The New York Times.

Other Republican candidates include: Larry Elder, Nikki Haley, Asa Hutchinson, Vivek Ramaswamy and Corey Stapleton. As for Democratic candidates, only two others besides Joe Biden are running, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson.

With another year and a half until the 2024 elections, more candidates will surely announce their candidacies. As it stands, no clear candidate has been nominated to represent the party. The season is fresh with candidates traveling the nation and campaigning for votes.
