Sabrina Carpenter, a musical artist more than ten years in the making, has finally made her way to the top and released her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet on August 23, 2024.
Following her hit single, “Espresso,” Carpenter wowed her audience with the sassy, fun-loving collection of songs on this album. Consisting of a total of twelve songs, Short n’ Sweet takes the audience through different stages of a relationship; a one night stand, new relationships, break ups, and revenge.
Carpenter has, so far, released three music videos for the songs, “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste,”. The sequence of videos tells an ongoing story that displays the different stages of a relationship. Two out of the three videos feature important characters like the boyfriend, played by Carpenter’s real life boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, and “the other woman” played by actress, Jenna Ortega. The storytelling of these songs is specifically entertaining and keeps the listeners wanting to know what is going to happen next in this witty story.
Although Sabrina is seen as being a “short and sweet” person, some of her lyrics may deflect that opinion as many of them are quite sassy and cheeky. One of the most popular lines from the album is found in the song, “Slim Pickins,” where Carpenter says, “This doesn’t even know the difference between ‘there’, ‘their’ and ‘they are,’ implying that her newfound boyfriend is not the brightest!
At the recent VMA awards, Sabrina won her very first VMA out of the Song of the Year category for her song, “Espresso”. Along with “Espresso,” many of her other songs have gotten very popular on TikTok and Instagram. With all of this publicity, it is no surprise that Short n’ Sweet has gotten as popular as it is, with such good reviews as well.
“She has been releasing music for almost ten years and is just now receiving credit, I personally think she deserved even more VMAs,” North junior, Joshua Mayberry shares about Sabrina Carpenter’s success.
It has definitely been a long time coming for Sabrina Carpenter, so it is great that she is finally earning some of the attention and praise she deserves. The storytelling and wit of this album is something that makes listening an amazing experience. If you are looking for a fun listen, make sure to give Short n’ Sweet a try and enjoy that “me espresso”!
