Cooper and Merrill Roads Reopen in Gilbert After Deadly Two-Vehicle Crash Shut Intersection for Hours

Gilbert police said the collision happened shortly after 10 a.m. south of Baseline Road and involved two vehicles.
Driver died at scene
Police said an adult female driver was unresponsive and trapped inside one of the vehicles after the crash. Fire crews pulled her from the wreckage and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle declined medical treatment, according to police.
Road closure lasted hours
The crash forced authorities to shut down the intersection while first responders worked the scene and investigators examined what happened. Drivers were told to stay away from the area and find alternate routes until the roadway reopened.
What police said so far
