Fiery Crash in San Francisco Sends Car Off 18th Street Overpass Onto Interstate 280, Killing 1 and Injuring 4

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — One person died and four others were taken to hospitals after a car flew off an overpass in San Francisco and landed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 280, authorities said. The vehicle caught fire after the crash, and one person was trapped inside, the California Highway Patrol said.

How the crash happened

The CHP said it got reports just before 12:20 a.m. Friday that a vehicle had gone off the 18th Street overpass between the Potrero Hill and Dogpatch neighborhoods. The car crashed down onto the freeway below, where it became fully engulfed in flames.

Responding crews found damage to the overpass guardrail and the burned vehicle on the roadway.
