Dylan Mulvaney’s Journey Through Girlhood
Dylan Mulvaney is a trans content creator and actress with 10.6 million followers on TikTok. She quickly gained popularity on Tiktok through a series called “Days of Girlhood”. In this docu-series, Mulvaney highlights the ups and downs of their life while transitioning. Her videos brought attention to the problems and issues that trans people face in their day-to-day life. Some people, mainly transphobes, find that her videos are stupid and don’t deserve attention.
In October 2022, Mulvaney and Caitlyn Jenner had a bit of an argument or dispute over Mulvaney’s words. Although Jenner is a trans woman and trans-rights activist, many of their statements and words are not well-received in the community. In a TikTok, Mulvaney stated how people should normalize women having bulges in their pants after realizing many people staring at her crotch while wearing a tighter-fitting clothing item. Jenner, and many other social and political figures, came to Twitter to share their disgust or confusion over the matter. On October 26, 2022, Jenner tweeted,”…Let’s not ‘normalize’ any of what this person is doing. This is absurdity!” Many fans were shocked at Jenner’s words and were bashed on social media and news outlets. Jenner decided to make another tweet the next day saying, “I do not support [normalizing bulges] at all, in the slightest. Dylan…congrats your trans with a penis.” Mulvaney’s fans commented on Jenner’s tweet, saying they felt sickened by her words or that Jenner is full of self-loathing and rage.
When asked about their thoughts on Mulvaney, Sophomore Naz Otubuah says, “Honestly, I feel that Dylan Mulvaney gives a lot of voices to the trans girls.” In regards to the Caitlyn Jenner drama, Otubuah feels that you don’t need to have female body parts to be a girl. It’s not your body that defines you, it’s who you are that does. “I feel that her series of ‘365 Days of Being a Girl,’ gives a voice to trans people who may not be able to tell that story and may have similar experiences to her. I think it’s great, honestly, as both a person and an influencer, who encourages people to listen and to talk about issues that aren’t necessarily talked about a lot, which are trans issues. […] I do think while she is influential, and she’s a good person to listen to, I don’t think that she’s the only person to listen to. There are a bunch of trans influencers out there, both trans fem and trans masc, who are people of color because, at the end of the day, she is a white woman. There are drugs that POC trans people go through that she may not go through because she is white.”
Recently, Mulvaney announced that she will be going under facial feminization surgery. This surgery includes jaw angle reduction, chin width reduction, rhinoplasty, forehead contouring, etc, done by Dr. Harrison Lee. Fans on social media posted their congratulations on the surgery and her progress. Following Mulvaney’s surgery, she created a series of posts on Instagram for her upcoming face reveal.
The contained three different posts, one featuring Mulvaney’s past as an actress, one of a dress inspired by “Swan Lake,” and one of Mulvaney in a nude bodysuit so she can star just herself.
As Dylan Mulvaney’s Day 365 is coming closer, she plans on playing a live stream in celebration. According to her Instagram account, the live stream features, “singing, special guests, and a walk down memory lane.” All the money goes to the Trevor Project, an organization dedicated to suicide prevention for young LGBTQ people.
