Partner In Crime: Twin Edition

Have you ever seen a pair of twins and just wondered how crazy it was that two people could look so similar? There are two types of twins, fraternal and identical. Most fraternal twins are one boy and one girl but these types of twins are from two different eggs. Usually, twins are born on the same day and the average interval of twin delivery is 19 mins. According to BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, the interval for a twin to twin delivery is 2 to 399 minutes, “68% of all second twins were delivered within 30 min.” Rarely are they born in two different years even in two different decades. I’m a twin and I am 2 minutes older than my sister. When I heard how two pairs of twins were born in different years I was fascinated. One twin was born before midnight and the next at midnight. However, it is always interesting to see how far apart different twins are born.

Maybe you’ve put the pieces together and can tell how this is possible. If you haven’t, no worries. I’ll help. Alfredo Antonio Trujillo and Aylin Yolanda Trujillo are twins, the first born at 11:45 pm on December 31, 2021, and the other was born at midnight on January 1, 2022. These twins were born on different days, months, and years. A similar situation occurred when a pair of twins were born in different decades! Wow, different decades right, how is that possible? Well, these twins were born 30 minutes apart. One was born on December 31, 2019, and the next one was born on January 1, 2020. They are also fraternal twins, their names are Joslyn and Jaxon.

There are about 1.2 million twins in this world and 1 out of 42 children are automatically born with a sibling by their side. I hope you learned more about twins today!
