On Oct. 19 John W. North’s Choral Program hosted a Disney-themed concert directed by choir teacher Tom Kociela inside North’s theater. It showcased every choral class including Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and Chorus.

Chamber Singers made their way to the stage with the gentlemen wearing tuxedos and the ladies in blue dresses. “Be Our Guest,” the song from ¨Beauty and the Beast” welcomed the crowd. After the Chamber singers’ strong opening Concert Choir sang a medley which included Disney’s classic hits. Several performances from the Chamber Singers followed. Senior Joy Lakes’ rendition of “Colors Of The Wind” was first which was followed by sophomore Lila Morales’ “More Than a Band.” Junior Eric Padwa and senior Raina Powers sang “Love Is an Open Door” next. Concluding the section was senior Curtis Lyons’ powerful interpretation of  “Back to Life.”

After vocal performances from Shyala Myers-Miles, Kiara Celis, Raina Powers and a few numbers from Chamber Singers the night came to a heart-warming close with the ensemble of all the classes cramming on stage and singing the beloved, light-hearted Randy Newman classic, “You’ve Got A Friend in Me” from Toy Story.

“The entire choir could’ve really benefit[ed] from listening to each other, trying to sync-up together and make sure that we’re all on key. If we mess up that we [have to] come back together into the piece and go with it,“ said senior Raina Powers.

“It was such a great experience listening to songs that I knew and can sing along with. I really appreciate Mr. Kociela’s hard work and dedication to start off the year … I hope they have a successful run for the rest of the year,” said senior Lawrence Myung who attended the event.D
